In recent weeks, the landscape around our property has changed drastically. What once was a serene and wooded area along our property line is now nothing more than leveled ground. This transformation has not been at our hands, but rather at those of our new neighbors, who moved in just a few years ago.
We had a conversation with the owner, expressing concerns that developers might eventually purchase the land and transform it into something far removed from the peaceful environment we cherish. He assured me that he shared our love for the land, mentioning how he planned to create trails similar to those on our property.
Over the past several months, however, we noticed some unsettling activity. Surveyors were seen along the back of our property, prompting concern that a big project was about to be underway. When we approached the neighbor to inquire about his plans, he again assured them that his goal was only to remove the dead trees for safety reasons. His words suggested that he had no plans beyond that.
But actions speak louder than words. In the last few weeks, the woods on his side of the property were completely leveled. Every tree was removed, and logging trucks carried them away one by one. It was a sad sight, but if there’s one thing this has done, it’s ignited a fire in us. We are more motivated than ever to preserve the woodland on our own property. Our commitment to protecting this land is now stronger than ever, with a goal is that our little corner of the world remains a sanctuary for nature.
